Handling Workers Compensation Claims
from an Employers Perspective

Description: This workshop will provide an in-depth look at Workers’ Compensation from the employers perspective, including properly reporting and documenting a work injury, medical treatment, medical bills, wage statements, and best practices after a work injury.

This workshop will address workers’ compensation claims from the date of injury through final resolution. The workshop will be presented by Jennifer Lea Orr who is an attorney with Farrar & Bates in Nashville and handles all the workers’ compensation cases for the firm and has done so for over ten years. Jennifer regularly advises her clients across Tennessee and Public Entity Partners on the proper handling of workers’ compensation claims, whether or not the claim is open in her office.

This workshop will focus on essential information of which an employer needs to be aware, such as the proper reporting of a work injury, the employer’s obligations when a work injury is reported, documentation and investigation of a workers’ compensation claim, information the employer needs to provide to Public Entity Partners, the general process of a workers’ compensation claim, the most common mistakes made in handling workers’ compensation claims, return to work issues, and the legal process which concludes a workers’ compensation claim. Additionally, Jennifer will update you on interesting workers’ compensation cases as well as the Workers’ Compensation Law for injuries occurring on or after July 1, 2014 and rules enacted in 2018, both of which have greatly affected the handling of workers’ compensation claims and their outcomes.

Jennifer intends the workshop to be casual, interactive, (hopefully) entertaining, but, most importantly, informative. We will also leave a portion of the end of the workshop open for questions and answers.
