PEP Staff Member Recognized at TnPRIMA Conference

At the TnPRIMA Conference in November, Tahtia Mitchell, PE Partners’ loss control specialist, was honored with the 2021 Risk Management Associate of the Year Award. The award recognizes an individual in risk management for exceptional performance.

Ms. Mitchell manages PE Partners’ grant and scholarship program. This program’s grants and scholarships include the UT LEIC Police De-Escalation/Response-to-Resistance Training, Virtual Academy online video training, Police Risk Management Institute Scholarship, PRIMA Institute Scholarship, PRIMA Conference Scholarship, TnPRIMA Conference Scholarship, Safety Partners Grant, The James L. Richardson Driver Safety Grant and the Property Conservation Grant.

Ms. Mitchell is responsible for the development of the annual grants and scholarships calendar, and the development and updating of all applications, deadlines and content for program materials. She also works with PE Partners’ communications and research department to market these programs online.

In addition, she responds to members’ questions and concerns relating to grants and scholarships, while also assisting with application issues, and ensuring that all materials have been fully completed and submitted in a timely manner.

“Ms. Mitchell’s efforts have enabled organizations to purchase multiple safety items,” said George Dalton, vice president of risk services. “We are very appreciative of her work to assist our members in promoting safe work practices.”

Just this year, a police chief reached out to share with PE Partners how the training one of his officers received prevented this officer from shooting an armed felon in the back as he ran from a domestic violence crime scene. He had received this training due to a grant Ms. Mitchell had helped him procure. Her work directly prevented a loss that could have created federal exposure and unlimited financial liability for one member.

“Without a doubt, Ms. Mitchell brings significant value to our organization,” said Dalton. “More importantly, because of the assistance she provides our members by helping them get the most from their memberships with PE Partners, she is constantly adding value for them as well.”
