Public Entity Partners is committed to ensuring that the next generation of risk management leadership is well-equipped to serve local governments. In support of this goal, PE Partners has launched a new internship program aimed at sharing public entity and pooling knowledge with risk management and insurance students.
The internship program focuses on providing real-world work experience in our underwriting, loss control and member services departments. In 2021, Aliyah Turner, David Dyatlov and Penelope Guzman were selected for this program, and have been working with our underwriting team to assist with the initial rating for member policy renewals. They’ve also been accompanying our loss control and member services teams during surveys and to renewal meetings.
A native of Murfreesboro, Aliyah Turner is studying risk management and insurance at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), and plans to graduate a semester early in December 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Her interest in the insurance industry was inspired by a commercial insurance class taught by an adjunct professor who works in that field. While pursuing her degree, she has worked with fourth-grade students in Murfreesboro City Schools’ Extended School Program.
David Dyatlov earned his bachelor’s in business administration in May from MTSU, where he majored in risk management and insurance.
“I applied for this internship because I knew it would be a tremendously valuable opportunity to gain experience in underwriting,” David said. “I have enjoyed rating policies and learning more about the losses impacting our members. Each member has different operations and assets, and the underwriting process is a great opportunity to learn more about local governments.”
Penelope Guzman also earned a bachelor’s in business administration in May from MTSU, where she majored in risk management and insurance. She graduated with a 3.7 grade point average and is the first member of her family to earn a college degree.
“I applied for the internship with Public Entity Partners to continue learning and to get a bit of experience before starting my career,” Penelope said. “Rating the liability policies is like fitting puzzle pieces together and is an interesting process to work through.”
Please join us in welcoming our inaugural class of interns to the Public Entity Partners family.
