A recent national survey revealed that 60% of American children have been exposed to violence, crime or abuse, and 40% have been direct victims of two or more violent acts. Because prolonged exposure to violence can seriously undermine a child’s learning ability, the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) has launched the Tennessee Handle with Care (HWC) initiative.

One way we live out our commitment to members is to return excess net surplus in the form of a dividend. Since the program was created in 1996, our members have received over $140 million in member dividends/ surplus returns. This directly benefits local governments across the state of Tennessee.

This year’s Risk and Insurance Symposium, to be held Aug. 25 - 27 at the Cool Springs Marriott, will feature a breakout session entitled “Firefighting Liability and Risk Management.” Led by Jason Sparks and Jeff Elliott from the Tennessee Fire and Codes Academy, this session will provide those in attendance the opportunity to participate in a demonstration of the Academy’s emergency vehicle driving simulator.

Each year, the Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration (TOSHA) publishes lists of the 20 most frequently cited standards following worksite inspections. TOSHA publishes these lists to alert employers and employees so they can take steps to find and fix these types of hazards.

Every day we hear of a new cyberattack in the news. From private businesses to public infrastructure, utilities and banking institutions — no one is spared from this threat. Unfortunately, the strength of your password alone is not enough to protect your organization’s sensitive data and systems from a cyberattack. Multifactor authentication is a tool implemented by many companies and organizations to protect data, systems and financial information. Multifactor authentication creates an added layer of security by requiring the user to have a password, along with a secondary way to verify the user’s identity. This could be a code texted to your phone, a token that generates a PIN or even facial recognition.

Several Tennessee lawmakers sponsored a resolution honoring Michael Fann, president and CEO of Public Entity Partners, for his 35 years of service to public entities across the state. Presented to Fann by Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R), District 23, on June 11 at PE Partners’ Board of Directors meeting, the resolution was also sponsored by Rep. Brandon Ogles (R), District 61; Rep. Sam Whitson (R), District 65; and Rep. Glen Casada (R), District 63.
